We get enough rain to fulfil the needs of every city, village, town locality. However, we allow the rain water to flow away into drains and when we need it the most, we fight amongst ourselves. If we harvested the rain water, we would have enough and more water locally, beneath our own feet and would not have to depend on others for our water security.
I'd like to use this forum to brainstorm on how to make rain water harvesting a national movement.
We need to go back to Mahatma Gandhi's vision of self sufficiency at every micro planning unit. Revive water bodies, harvest and use rainwater, protect our rivers and their floodplains and extract only as much as we need.
